ALTON, IL – February 22, 2011– The Jacoby Arts Center and the River Bend Growth Association are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of their lower level artist studios on Thursday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the Center’s location at 627 East Broadway in Alton, Illinois. The public is invited to attend. Parking is available on the street or behind the building.
With an anonymous gift of just over $200,000 to develop affordable studio spaces for artists in the lower level on the east side of the building, construction will begin on seven studios, four 19’ x 13’ and three 19’ x 17’ with adjacent common work and display areas. Completion is expected by summer 2011. The general contractor for this project is Zumwalt Construction.
This major gift helps jump-start the Center’s vision to develop all aspects of the fine arts: music, theater, dance, literary, and visual. This gift is an expression of community generosity and support for which Jacoby Arts Center is profoundly grateful. These studio spaces will further the viability of our cultural community and increase the economic support from the arts and the artists, while also facilitating further interaction among artists. This development also provides enhanced interactions between the artists and the community itself.
Located at 627 East Broadway in Alton, Illinois, the Jacoby Arts Center is open during the winter season (through March 31) on Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Sundays and Mondays. For more information, visit the Center’s website at www.jacobyartscenter.org or call 618-462-5222.
The Jacoby Arts Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster the artistic development and economic success of artists, and to expand accessibility to the arts through programs that promote education, participation and exploration.
