ALTON, IL – March 1, 2011– While the Jacoby Arts Center opened just seven years ago, the organization is celebrating 30 years of the arts. An organization that began in 1981 as the Madison County Arts Council is now the Jacoby Arts Center and is marking its 30th anniversary with a fundraiser event on Saturday, March 19, 2011 from 7 to 10 p.m. known as “30 ROCKS!” This theme will continue throughout the 2011 year to mark each Jacoby Arts Center benefit. This event is open to the public with no admission charge.
Koerner Distributor, Inc. will be providing the wine and craft beer tasting for this event. Attendees will have the opportunity to order from Koerner any of the 12 varieties of wine and craft beers offered for tasting during the event.
There will also be a silent auction of many impressive donated items, including a set of four box seat tickets at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis for the March 27 performance of “Stomp”. Simmons Firm LLC, a sponsor of the event, donated this auction item. TheBANK of Edwardsville is also an event sponsor. Tickets to an upcoming Gateway Grizzlies game have also been donated for the silent auction, along with other very exclusive items and, of course, one-of-a-kind items skillfully crafted by some of Jacoby’s talented member artists.
Additionally, the Jacoby Arts Center is raffling one bottle of Meeker Hand-Print wine donated by Koerner Distributor, Inc. This is a limited edition, hand imprinted bottle of wine that features hand imprints and has a value of $50.00. It is a collector’s item with only 4,000 bottled per year. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each and are on sale now at the Arts Center.
Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will also be available. For the first half of the evening, the Alton Symphony Orchestra String Ensemble will provide live music. Local band “Typsy Gypsy” will provide musical entertainment during the second half of the evening.
“This is our first wine and beer tasting and I think anyone who attends will find it to be a uniquely fun time,” said Melissa Mustain, executive director at the Arts Center. “Everyone is invited to come out, taste some quality wines and beer, listen to the music, take a chance on winning the raffle or the silent auction, but mostly just to come out and have a great time at Jacoby on a Saturday night,” Mustain added.
Mustain also explained, “We’re hoping that, after this event and an entire year of marking the occasion of our 30th anniversary, everyone will finally understand that what was once the Madison County Arts Council is now the Jacoby Arts Center. We legally changed our name in 2009. Our organization has been going now for 30 years, but our name change took place to better represent and identify those we serve. We serve artists and the arts community in Madison County and much beyond.”
Located at 627 East Broadway in Alton, Illinois, the Jacoby Arts Center is open during the winter season (through March 31) on Tuesdays-Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Sundays and Mondays. For more information, visit the Center’s website at www.jacobyartscenter.org or call 618-462-5222.
The Jacoby Arts Center is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster the artistic development and economic success of artists, and to expand accessibility to the arts through programs that promote education, participation and exploration.
